Why are people obsessed with wanting to be beautiful on the outside?

Question by Agent_Ivey: Why are people obsessed with wanting to be beautiful on the outside?
You hear about plastic surgery, getting veneers for that perfect smile, wanting long hair, lip injections….I could go on, but you get what I mean.

So, what is it with people and wanting to be beautiful? Why can’t we look in the mirror and be fine with what we see? Why does outer beauty have such a hold on our society when there’s more to being who you are as a person?
And I don’t mean to sound like I’m against it or anything. Just a curious question is all.

Because if you want to be beautiful here in America YOU CAN. There’s no stopping anyone from doing what they want. It’s called freedom!

Because people won’t see inner beauty if the outer one does not please them.

well to attract the opposite sex I suppose?

Simply because we are no longer beautiful on the inside.

I wouldn’t insult God and get plastic surgery. veneers, maybe I can see, but we are a sick world. I wish I really didn’t care about my appearance, i’d be a happier person, but i have been self conscious my whole life. And it makes me think about my appearance to much. Not that I do much about it, i’m low maintenance…but its a pain in the butt to worry so much and let it limit you.

” Why can’t we look in the mirror and be fine with what we see? ” . . .

I was, cause 43 years ago my wife looked @ me and i @ her, and

were both happy with what we saw, anything less and we’d still

be looking in the mirror today and asking a different question . . .

    ” Why is life so unfair ” ? . . .
