When producing an injection-molded product, a liquid polymer is injected into a mold through small nozzles (jets). After the liquid cools and hardens and the product is removed from the mold, the places where the nozzles were are clearly seen on the surface of the plastic.
You can easily see these marks on large numbers of normal household items.
In production, some of these places are smoothed with a sharp blade but usually a flame is applied and the heat removes the burrs. However, the marks can still be seen.
In plastic works of art, the marks are removed manually with heat and buffing.
