Does this job offer sound like a scam?

Question by Lydia R: Does this job offer sound like a scam?
I posted an availibility ad on Craigslist, detailing what I had done for work in the past, what I would do, and when I would be available. I got the usual spam about “Would you like to make money every time someone shops at the grocery store?” but there was a response that had more initial legitimacy.
I received an email from one Shuenn Jaan, a managing director for a
machinery company bearing his name. He says this compnay deals in all kinds of rugs. He said that he needed someone to print the payroll for the company and send it via the company’s FedEx or UPS account. I would be paid 300 dollars/week through Western Union Money transfer (Red Flag #1). I contacted him, and we have been doing some IMing. He said that I needed to buy a VersaCheck printer and checks for the job (Why didn’t he tell me right away? Red Flag #2), but he said he’d reimburse me. I went to the webiste and put the items in my cart. With shipping, the total Came to about 80 dollars. I’m nervous about plunking down that kind of money for something I’m not sure is legit. I’m not sure why he wanted to IM only (Red Flag #3); maybe he thinks there’s no trace of what he said. I looked up the Shuenn Jaan Machinery Co., Ltd., and found it was on numerous scam buster sites, but as a plastic-injection molding company. Could this be the same scam under a different cover? This is the most legitimate-sounding job offer I’ve received, and I would like it to be real, but I’m extremely skeptical, especially since I’d work about 2 hours a week for 300 dollars. What are your opinions? How can I find an honest work-at-home job?

ANYTIME you see “Western Union” AND you have to front ANY money…..automatic scam. Unfortunately there are not many legit work-at-home jobs. The good ones are reserved for working professionals who already work for established companies and something changed in their work/life where the employee is more productive by working at home rather than in their office.
