You mean if you ask a plastic molder to produce parts for you? Just very ballpark – say for a small PP part the size of a wallet, unit cost is likey less than , maybe just cents. But the upfront tooling cost is large: say ,000 for a small, basic injection-molding tool. Tooling can be over ,000 for larger, more intricate parts.

Depends a lot on your product’s size and complexity and how much volume you want to make, of course….

Hope this helps – but if you’re talking about buying a machine and setting up your own factory it’s a much bigger question.

Extrusion.. There is a mold or tooling which the molten plastic is forced through to produce a continuous shape.. Extrusion is used to make Plastic window frames, plastic bags, guttering, plastic tubing etc.
Injection.
There is a closed mold or tool which molten plastic is injected into, solidified and then removed.
For example the fittings that you use to fix your guttering to your roof, the dashboard of your car, , the soles of your shoes.. I.e. complex shapes that require dimensions in X, Y and Z axes whereas the Extruded only needs the X and Y axes.

Setup charges are the ‘killer’ to a small project like this. The per-letter cost will be pennies, but it will cost several thousand US$ as a setup charge.

The injection molding company *may* have a standard letter-set mold in stock, so that may save a bundle. You’d have to check with each company to find out if they have letters in stock. Be sure and ask if they do the chrome plating, too.

Even if they have a set of letter molds on-the-shelf, they may charge a minimum that will run in the US00’s.
