Extrusion.. There is a mold or tooling which the molten plastic is forced through to produce a continuous shape.. Extrusion is used to make Plastic window frames, plastic bags, guttering, plastic tubing etc.
Injection.
There is a closed mold or tool which molten plastic is injected into, solidified and then removed.
For example the fittings that you use to fix your guttering to your roof, the dashboard of your car, , the soles of your shoes.. I.e. complex shapes that require dimensions in X, Y and Z axes whereas the Extruded only needs the X and Y axes.

Is it easier to mold silicone than plastic?
Question by Ray: Is it easier to mold silicone than plastic?
Let’s say I want to produce a certain small part, will it be easier to do it with silicone than plastic? I don’t mean do it yourself at home, I mean producing it at a quantity of few thousands. So therefore I need a mold.
To make such a mold for silicone part should be cheaper and simpler than an injection mold for plastic is it? You don’t have to worry about temperature…
I don’t know, how does the industry make silicone parts?

Its difficult to answer without knowing anything about your part. They are equally easy to make, the cost may very depending on the complexity of the object. it will also matter what the material your object is made out of what you are making the mold for, and also what material you are making the mold out of. Plastic and silicone cast be made from a lot of different methods, like injection, slush cast and others. An injection mold may work great for something like a garbage can, but if you are making a sculpture of a human head, silicone will provide better results but in that case would be more expensive for that kind of application. There really are too many variables without having any idea what you are making

It’s a good choice. It’s a martensitic stainless steel, so it’ll be hard, which makes for good polishing (the softer metals tend to tear and smear). Plus it also has limited carbides, which is what makes 440C so bad for polishing. The electroslag remelting makes for a clean steel, as well- very few inclusions.

What does a Plastics Mold Injection and Packaging Company do?

PMI is a much faster and cost efficient option especially when pouring a mold is not practical. Also, pouring is more of a replication while the injection process is closer to the duplication of interchangeable parts.
Because the injection process is highly automated, as opposed to traditional manual molding, it will probably be a pre-production support position as you, hopefully, train to become a machine operator. Good Luck.

prolly your basic factory job…boring, repetitive, assembly line, piece work… they prolly make the cartons and the stuffing for other companies products….those plastic forms you see holding toys in place in the box..the box and packing cutouts from your cellphone..stuff like that…you may be doing nothing moe than sticking labels on the side of a carton all day every day..
what ever it is they do, will be explained to you in detail at the interview…that’s what they talk about at the interview..and you talk about how you understand what they say and how you can follow simple instructions….
cuz that’s all your job will entail. following simple instructions.

Injection Molded Foam Mold Opening
Unlike plastic injection, the mold cavities for injection molded foam are designed smaller than the final part size. The parts expand rather than shrink. The amount of expansion is dependant on the material softness you require. The material remains in the heated mold during the cross-linking or cooking process. The cooking time is dependant on the thickness of the part. The mold opens very quickly when the cooking is complete. The part expands and explosively self ejects from the mold cavity. The part is removed from the mold station and set to cool. Find out more at www.mdiproducts.com

Try Micromark.com, they have a whole section on do-it-yourself plasic molding.
Injection molding is $$$$$, forget about it unless you are going to make 10,000 at least.
