Question for anyone who knows cost accounting?

Question by Ckar87: Question for anyone who knows cost accounting?
I’m having a little trouble with my accounting homework, so anyone that has taken accounting or knows about cost accounting, help would be greatly appreciated :)

Dayton Extruded Plastics is a manufacturer of injection-molded extrusions. Scrapped or defective extrusions were ground into powder and fed back into the extruders as raw materials. Defective extrusions were inspected during line work and in handling returns from customers; they were ground up in special grinding machines and mixed with new raw material and reused in manually controlled injection molding machines. The molding machines use utilities provided for the main manufacturing facility. After grinding, maintenance and cleanup of the facilities were performed by general maintenance personnel. Because all scrapped extruders were reused in this way, company management felt that the cost of the scrap was “free”. The company’s traditional cost accounting system did not associate any cost with the cost of processing scrap.

Required:
Explain why the company’s traditional cost accounting system is giving misleading results related to Dayton Extruded Plastics processing of scrap.

Amazing, I was a cost accountant in a plastics company. However I suspect that your teacher will not like my answer.

Not all plastics can be re-ground. Where I worked, what could be re-ground was limited to a maximum of 5% of the mixture (95% new and 5% re-grind) in new product.

The cost of the inspectors can be ignored since they would be there any way to inspect all the product. You incur no extra cost by having the inspectors toss the rejects into a bin. the cost of the person who collect the reject bins can be ignored since they would have to toss the rejects into the trash if not re-ground.

The special machine (and it is not that special or costly) costs, as does the cost of the person that that operates it.

GAPP would require you to collects those costs and include them in the re-grind inventory. If the costs were 1,000 for depreciation and labor to regrind 1,000 lbs, then your cost of the regrind is .00 (ignoring the initial cost of the material. If your have 2 lb of re-grind left, you have 1.00 of additional inventory.

However the materiality provision would come into play. for it to be worth to collect you would need a very high reject rate. If you do, they the company is failing anyway. If your have one reject in 5,000 then the amount of re-grind is negligible

Q&A: Anyone else work in a factory?

Question by ArkyGirl: Anyone else work in a factory?
I have worked in a factory for 16 years (since I was 19). I run an injection molding machine that makes plastic parts. At the factory I work at we make knives- Ginsu knives, Pampered Chef knives, American Angler electric fillet knives. We also make vacuum cleaner parts for Kirby and Oreck. Just wondering if anyone else works in a factory.

Does anyone in California or elsewhere feel the plastic surgery pressure?

Question by Tar: Does anyone in California or elsewhere feel the plastic surgery pressure?
I live in the OC and everywhere I turn I see plastic surgery.
I see the old ladies with their stretched faces and crazy eyes then the soccer mom’s, and then the younger girls with their perky D cups. Usually it never got to me, especially since growing up in the Midwest, but lately as I cruise the beach, the bars, myspace, facebook…. ahhhh… you name it, it just surrounds me. I use to make fun of the girls with all the fakeness but now as one after another of my friends gets another boob job, nose job, and lip injection… I am starting to doubt myself. Now I want something done just so I can be in the club. Sounds ridiculous but the mentality that surrounds me tends to love the perfections of surgery beauty. Does anyone feel this weird pressure? Does anyone, ladies and guys, think it’s becoming cliche?

Any lady that gets a boob job should be smacked. Many, many, of us men love the smaller busted ladies (A cup). I can understand some procedures like if a person lost a lot of weight and needed to have skin removed.

I do not think there are enough surgeons to help me.

Does Anyone Know The Affects Of Receiving A Parvo And Dirty Syringe Injection?

Question by michelley: Does Anyone Know The Affects Of Receiving A Parvo And Dirty Syringe Injection?
In May/2000 i was vaccinating a sow with “Porcine Parvo” about 10cc’s and a very dirty syringe caked on the inside with old vaccines. I received the vaccine through a 15 guage needle gun, which punctured through my left hand and damaged nerves and my tendon sheeth. I was then rushed to hospital for treatment as i was unable to use my left hand, not to mention the severe pain. I was sent home that night and checked in with them the next 3 days and on the fourth i was admitted to the hospital as i became very ill. The plastic surgeon talked about amputating my hand,i refused and my hand got better enough to not loose my hand but i still had pain and problems. NO DOCTOR knew what to do or what it would do to me,out of the hospital and still searching my options. I had numerous tests done and finaly an MRI on my left hand which showed up a mass on my nerves and tendon sheeth. July/2002 i had hand surgery to remove the mass BUT i am still suffering . Can anyone help with some answers?? Thanks

Maybe you were being told that just because it’s an animal you are injecting, they should be given a clean syringe

One place you might group you might want to check with is John Klees Enterprise Inc. If their not able to help you they might be able to steer you in the right direction.

I’ve been to a few different training seminars with Klees and Bozzelli they both are great instructors. Their not just a corporate slaes person just pushing you towards a product their selling like say the crew at RJG or so many other injection molding seminars I have gone to in the past 20 years.
