Question by A translator: a long sentence about injection molding?
“Development of a transducer for in-line and through cycle monitoring
of key process and quality variables in injection molding”. i don’t understand this sentence. i am puzzled by the two prepositions,”for” and “by”. what does “in-line” mean? is it an adjective or a noun? can someone explain the whole sentence to me ?i am not a native english speaker. many thanks!

This is a clumsy sentence which tries to put too much information into one sentence. It would be better split up into two or three sentences.

In a simplified form the sentence states :

“Development of a transducer for monitoring variables in injection-moulding”.

(Injection-moulding is a compound noun which requires a hyphen.)

“for” tells you what the purpose of the transducer is (“for monitoring variables”).
(I cannot see a preposition “by”)

What sort of variables does the transducer monitor ? — those variables which control the process and affect the quality of the product.

How does the transducer work ? — by monitoring the variables “in-line” (which means whilst the process is actually running) and by monitoring the variables “through-cycle” (which means from beginning to the end of the process – not just a part of it, but the whole process.)

“through-cycle” is a compound adjective, which should have a hyphen. It will have a particular meaning which applies to the particular process under discussion.

drinking water= boil it
agar medium= using a steam autoclave to produce moist heat. Other methods, including filtration, ethylene oxide, radiation, or ultraviolet light, may be necessary if components are heat-labile or materials are not heat-resistant.
lab bench= Clean the lab desk top with disinfectant at the beginning and end of the lab.
open wound= wash it with soap and water, apply antiseptic.
petri dish-plastic=filtration, ethylene oxide, radiation, or ultraviolet light.

Question by carly m: a question about my dogs epilepsy…?
shes on 4 ML of potassium bromide and KNOCK ON WOOD she hasnt had a siezure in about a little mroe than 2 weeks now.

the only thing is the dog pharmacy we get the meds from-oradell animal hospital meds …only has liquid or powder form of this medicine.

she takes liquid..4 ML in the plastic injection tube..and its inserted orally.my dad squirts it down her throat and she HATES it. its salty and…we cant put it in her dog food cause she eats dry not wet….so

anyways..she went to bite my dad today when he gave her the meds..she really hates getting it. the pharmacy suggested maybe getting the powder form and trying to find a human pharmacy nearby and getting it capsulated..but its alot of work

does anyone have a dog who takes liquid meds who handles it a different way? we’re desperate..its torture seeing her cry when my dad has to give her that..but of course im SO thankful she hasnt had another siezure.

any tips???

i know about phenobarbital very well…but its bad for my dogs liver cause shes old =( but thank you for the suggestion!

Sometimes you can also have a flavoring compound added to the liquid to make it taste better. Potassium bromide is kind of an older med, most vets use phenobarbital, which comes in a liquid or a tablet form. Usually we will only use potassium bromide if the phenobarbital isn’t working. I would ask the vet if phenobarbital is an option for her.

Question by walker: about merc two stroke oil injection
I just purchaced a boat with a 1993 2.5 litre 175 merc. When I bought the boat, the guy told me that the oil pump was driven off of a plastic gear, connected to the crankshaft. my question is, how reliable is this gear. also, I have took the cover off and seen that the oil injection unit is just spliced into the fuel line, i think, if i looked right. can i just buy a quarter inch nipple and by-pass the whole thing, or is there more to it than that?????????????

as well as companys that offer upgrade parts for this type of engine,these old ford trucks are all steel and tuff as nails no plastic junk ,but they love gas, so far i have looked at a offenhouser intake that claims to improve fuel economy, i was thinking maybe to mix a newer aluminum intake with a factory fuel rail injection system and wire in the computor and other parts from a later model truck motor, i realize i would have to boar the holes for the injectors and build the air inlet control parts from other units, but all in all can this be done and what other problems could i run in to, also the fire to the plugs ? maybe a mag type distributor or what, iv’e had this truck since back when i was in school and really want the mpg to improve as well as dependable for long trips, later i want to give to my son when everything is problem free, if anyone out their can give me solid info it would really make my day, thanks so much for your help.

Your best bet is to obtain a “donor” vehicle. Get a wrecked 2000 and up F-series truck with let’s say a 5.4L SOHC V8 with a 4R100 transmission. That would be an EXCELLENT combination. The horsepower & torque of that drivetrain would easily surpass your 351M. Just make sure you get EVERYTHING, and wire it in accordingly. You could even fabricate your suspension to accept the 4-wheel disc brake set-up depending how handy and creative you are. Hope this helps.

I have not heard of Encon. There is a company called Econ which is listed in the Wall Street Journal.
