Question by Bryan K: Plastic injection moulding protyping?
Anyone have experience with a reputable company that won’t cost me a small fortune? I am looking to get a toy ready for production.

Lindsay Publications, they sell a book on how to make one that is pretty simple and good for small runs/prototyping. This way you will get the right size for your use.

Even if you don’t build from the book you will learn a lot about what’s out there and how it works

I once did a google search on this topic. You are looking at a price range of $1000~$2000 for around 100 parts.

Search “iinjection molding” in google and look at the advertisement links google comes up with.

    Good luck!

If you have 3-D CAD data, then I recommend Quickparts – http://www.quickparts.com . I have found them to be competitively priced with reasonably good quality. You can get cost right off the web by uploading your data to their website.

The best overall cost for one or two samples of each component will be FDM (fused deposit modelling) prototypes. If you need several working prototypes, then you’ll save money by going to urethane parts.

Without 3-D CAD, you’ll be better off working with a local machine shop as you’ll need to work closely with someone to make sure the product function and dimensions are clearly understood.
