how to make a tight seal between two metal components?

Question by makk: how to make a tight seal between two metal components?
hi..i am doing a project on auto suction of raw materials from the bin to hopper…This project is on Thermo set injection molding machine. The raw material is so fine powder like particles…the problem i felt is when the suction is in process, these fine powders is leaking out between the small gap between the lid and the hopper…welding between these two will affect the preventive maintenance work….
so please help me to figure this out….

It sounds like you need to get a gasket. There are lots of kinds of gaskets, so you’re going to have to shop around. Size, pressure, temperature and materials are going to be some important factors to consider, among others.

Without more information about your machine, there isn’t much more I can help you with.

I would improve the fit between the lid and the hopper and increase the weight of the lid so that it is held tighter and has minimal gap to allow any escaping powder. also, if the design of the lid and hopper can be changed then i would incorporate a channel around the top of the hopper that the lid fits on to so that the powder has a longer route to take before it can escape. This is often done with drain covers and rodding holes to reduce leakage.

u need a gasket and a lock that can clam the lid and the rim of the hopper together. the type of gasket and the lock depends on the suction of the molding machine.

put up this project on freelancer.com and many engineers would work on your problem at a decent bid.
