Riesselmann, a company specializing in plastic injection molding, wanted to implement an automated process to mount clips in cable ducts, thus helping to secure the future of its Lohne, Germany plant, and the jobs of those employed there. This was to be achieved through more cost-effective production processes, reduced costs, higher output and more consistent quality. A particular challenge was presented by the twisted shape of the cable ducts and the varying positions of the mounting points on these plastic parts.

Audi R8 V10 and R8 GT Lightweight Carbon Fiber Components

www.eurocarnews.com – Audi AG – Fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP) are a particularly intriguing group of materials, particularly the carbon fiber-reinforced plastics (CFRP). Audi already offers a number of CFRP components for the interior and the body, primarily in the R8 model family. These range all the way up to load-bearing structural elements such as the side walls and the cover for the top compartment in the R8 Spyder. In future models, Audi plans to use CFRP components manufactured using the much more efficient RTM (resin transfer molding) process in the vehicle structure. With RTM, the dried fiber fabric is first draped (formed) before being placed in a closed, heated die and injected with synthetic resin at high pressure. This ensures that the fabric is thoroughly saturated and cured under pressure and temperature. The experts at Production Technology Development have developed specialized expertise in both draping and injection, enabling them to optimize the production process in advance. The new CFRP parts will reinforce steel or aluminum components or will serve as independent components in the structure. Carbon fiber-reinforced plastic is not only around 60 percent lighter than steel, it is a designer material that allows the mechanical designers to freely define many component properties. CFRP components perform best when they are designed to absorb forces coming from a single direction. The individual layers of fiber fabric placed over top of one another in

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a widely used thermoplastic resin. Globally, more than 50% of PVC manufactured is used in construction. As a building material, PVC is cheap, durable, and easy to assemble. In recent years, PVC has been replacing traditional building materials such as wood, concrete and clay in many areas. Polyvinyl Chloride is a polymer made by the catalytic polymerization of vinyl chloride. PVC also includes copolymers that contain at least 50% vinyl chloride. The neat homopolymer is hard, brittle and difficult to process, but it becomes flexible when plasticized. Polyvinyl chloride molding compounds can be extruded, injection molded, compression molded, calendered, and blow molded to form a huge variety of products, either rigid or flexible depending on the amount and type of plasticizers used. There are more compounding recipes for PVC than for any other polymer. Rigid PVC is strong, difficult to burn, has excellent resistance to strong acids and bases, to most other chemicals, and to many organic solvents. Additionally, polyvinyl chloride is one of the least expensive plastics.

Art to CNC Video 2 – Images! – CNC Tutorials – CNC …

Art to CNC Video Series Video 2 This is the CNC Video series on how to take an image to a CNC File. This process is one that many CNC Users want to know, but there is not much info on. Here is your chance to get the inside scoop. For more information, please go to: www.cncinformation.com In this video, we go over Images. There are a number of different things we need to know about images before we begin converting them into CNC Files. There are really two different types of images. Raster and Vector images. Raster images are made with Pixels and Vector images are drawn using math equations. We are interested in Vector art when we use images for CNC. This video talk about how to select images for CNC and some places you can get them from.

Builders Prosthetics International

Commercial prosthetic fingers are poorly designed to suit the needs of thousands of amputees globally who require strong, low-cost prosthesis to continue working in labor intensive trades. Currently finger prosthesis are primarily cosmetic, are not designed to withstand heavy loads, and may cost up to 00. Builders Prosthetics International seeks to establish a sustainable, non-profit company that will design new product lines of robust finger prosthesis, innovate small-batch injection manufacturing technologies, and develop an international distribution system to deliver low-cost, effective prosthesis to thousands of amputees globally. The prosthetic tool exhibited in this movie was successfully designed, fabricated, and utilized to rehabilitate a professional carpenter who had been previously unemployed for 2 years since a serious work related accident. The prosthetic tool is easily fabricated with a simple “small-batch” reaction injection molding process, the socket is then modified to fit the amputee, and the device is finally anchored via a specialized glove. Each prosthetic tool (including glove) can be sold profitably at under . Through designing and distributing such prosthetic tools, Builders Prosthetics seeks to empower thousands of amputees globally involved in labor intensive occupations to regain much of their occupational capacities.
