Does this job offer sound like a scam?
Question by Lydia R: Does this job offer sound like a scam?
I posted an availibility ad on Craigslist, detailing what I had done for work in the past, what I would do, and when I would be available. I got the usual spam about “Would you like to make money every time someone shops at the grocery store?” but there was a response that had more initial legitimacy.
I received an email from one Shuenn Jaan, a managing director for a
machinery company bearing his name. He says this compnay deals in all kinds of rugs. He said that he needed someone to print the payroll for the company and send it via the company’s FedEx or UPS account. I would be paid 300 dollars/week through Western Union Money transfer (Red Flag #1). I contacted him, and we have been doing some IMing. He said that I needed to buy a VersaCheck printer and checks for the job (Why didn’t he tell me right away? Red Flag #2), but he said he’d reimburse me. I went to the webiste and put the items in my cart. With shipping, the total Came to about 80 dollars. I’m nervous about plunking down that kind of money for something I’m not sure is legit. I’m not sure why he wanted to IM only (Red Flag #3); maybe he thinks there’s no trace of what he said. I looked up the Shuenn Jaan Machinery Co., Ltd., and found it was on numerous scam buster sites, but as a plastic-injection molding company. Could this be the same scam under a different cover? This is the most legitimate-sounding job offer I’ve received, and I would like it to be real, but I’m extremely skeptical, especially since I’d work about 2 hours a week for 300 dollars. What are your opinions? How can I find an honest work-at-home job?

ANYTIME you see “Western Union” AND you have to front ANY money…..automatic scam. Unfortunately there are not many legit work-at-home jobs. The good ones are reserved for working professionals who already work for established companies and something changed in their work/life where the employee is more productive by working at home rather than in their office.
Give your answer to this question below!
it sounds like a scam, and let me know when you find a work at home job, because i’ve been looking 2 years and its not an easy thing to find.
99.999999% chance it’s a scam.
They are all scams, I suggest you to better stay away from this BS.
I would google the company and find out if they are in the BBB and what information is about them.
Don’t reply unless you know about the company.
Trust me, most CL ads are fake.
And if you are sitting here questioning it, chances are it is a scam.
You should go to the police and report what happened. And if you have the equipment for making checks, take that, too! Sounds like a check fraud scam. They won’t get into any trouble because you’re the one that bought the VersaCheck printer and they can verify this. That way you get caught holding the bag! No legitimate business or company would ever ask an employee to purchase their own equipment! You can also GOOGLE “VersaCheck fraud scams on Craiglists” My oh my what an eye opener.
ITS A SCAM!
No serious employer would have YOU buy equipment for HIS business. Never put money DOWN with the PROMISE of getting it back.
Do you know where this person lives? How will you get your money if he doesn’t pay? Why would an employer pay you with western union?
You wrote”I looked up the Shuenn Jaan Machinery Co., Ltd., and found it was on numerous scam buster sites”.
(Duh!!)
IF YOU DON’T LISTEN TO YOUR OWN WARNING FLAGS, YOU ARE AN IDIOT! (Don’t mean to be mean, but COME ON!)
How could it be, that in your mind, that it isn’t a scam? There are NO get rich schemes for stay-home jobs, unless you are running your OWN business FROM home.
This definatley sounds like a scam.
There is a site called http://scamhelp.co.uk and you can get help there about scams.
there are tasks that u need to perform against the money that is promised for each tasks. the more tasks u perform more money u earn.
Then there is a concept of minimum payout. Once you have earned that minimum amount by completing tasks, you are eligible for payment.
