Here’s the venting process for a 2 piece silicone mold. The vents here are simple but the same rules apply to more complicated parts. The mold was made in a previous video using Platsil 73-15. The cast was made using EZ Flo 60 casting resin.

too bad it doesnt open and close
Um… sure??
can you apply an epoxy coloured gel coat in stead?
The spray is not functioning as a mold release. Using this approach we have no loss of detail and we get a very strong bond between paint and resin.
is the spray paint acting as a mold release? Or simply a colour coat, why not paint after?
Yes. See our other videos where we use PolyColors to pigment resin and rubber.
Is there a way to dye the casting resin directly aside form the spray paint of the mold
@Mybmxpage You might want a semi-rigid as opposed to a resin. PT Flex 85 would be better.

Niiiiccceeee !!!
All depends on your mold making skills.
great for making rare rc car parts, how tricky would it be to repo a rc car hard body?
Only put as many vents as you absolutely have to have. More vents = more cleanup work.
if i accidently put to many vents in will this impact the finished product
also for larger object would i need more of less vents
Yes, it is not thin at all! Thanks! I’m hoping to cast next week when I get my order of supplies! Thanks for the fast response! I really appreciate it!
As long as the area that might trap air is not too thin that should work.
Great video! But, I have a quick question about the mold I recently made…my first one. I have not vented it and I have a very undercut (?) area…I figured I could get away with tilting the mold as I pour resin into that area and then slowly tilt it back to level as the cavity fills up….will that also work? I could cut vents also, but I’m worried the resin would just gush out of the vents since the would be at the bottom of the mold. What would you recommend?
very inspiring. thanks.
This technique works best with a silicone mold.
i see now…thats amazing about the spray paint though…does that work no matter what specific molds or resins are being used? thanks for all your help with the question
EZ Flo 60 is a great resin material for all kinds of casting applications.
sorry I meant lets say I were selling toys or statues what material would I use
I actually use different sized straws to creating venting in the silicone. I find it to be quite easy to do it this way. I cast the straws in with the object and then remove them afterwards.
not sure what you mean.
what material would i use if I was selling cast
